Ultimate heresy or a sound choice? :) I like it. Got any interesting reviews/road tests? Post 'em up. Some more pics after the jump.

Did it come with an LSD? If so it's a sound choice.

I've always liked these cars. I'm not sure why; there's probably something wrong with me...

I'd love to drive one to find out, but they sure are pretty. Here's one at a local autocross.

My fwd roadster was faster than the Élan. It was a Mercury Capri XR2. And I could take 2 friends with me. (Ok, one of those friends was my dog.)

Not 100% sure, but I believe there was no stock LSD. However, Quaife units can be picked up for a decent amount of money. Then again, the engine only puts out 162hp, so it can't be that bad...

Shame it had to get stretched for widescreen because they originally designed it in 4:3. It was supposed to look like this, before the world changed to 16:9.

Yeah, I've liked them since early elementary school, when we used to play Lotus III:
Then one day, a youngish local celebrity started driving one on the streets of my sleepy post-socialist town. Looked awesome as heck. Dude also had a Matra Murena and a Corvette, these days he's rocking an Elise, I hear.
His Murena 'bout to get towed.
But anyway, I hear the Elan had its share of derision on account of the square stance... And let's not get into soft-top leaks and the like... :D

You cheeky git. :D I like the low-wide stance of it all. *shrug*

Oh, I like it as well. Kind of like the squished one too, though. I just wanted to see what it looked like :)

Does the driver post good times or is the Lotus badge a lie? I must know. :)

Well, I'm not the one to go to war on facts, but I'm having trouble swallowing this...
In the blue corner, weighing in at 2498 lb / 1133 kg, with a 1.6L 132HP turboed engine, the Capri XR2 Convertible.
In the red corner, at just 2249 lb / 1020.13 kg and pushing 162hp from the engine of more or less the same size and aspiration, the Lotus Elan M100.
Both have 5 gears, and the Elan is shorter, handling is said to be very good. How can it be?! :D

I keep hearing about Quaife differential kits, do they have those for all cars and drivetrain variations? It would be awesome if they make a rear-biased center LSD kit that fits my ST165.

Perhaps it was the federalized version of the Elan? Perhaps the gearing in the Merc was shorter? I don't know. I read it somewhere, and that's all I needed to just run with it. Mine was the '94 version which was improved over the first batch of Capris.

I couldn't find one with a quick search, but here's a thread about LSDs in Celicas on Alltrac.net: http://www.alltrac.net/phpBB2/viewtop…
Then there's Cusco models here:
http://www.race.fi/en/product/305…
And here, which is cheaper, but half a world away:
http://www.fortyone.co.nz/parts/view/273…
I recommend you look around a bit, read some reviews and what not. I seem to remember Cusco being a good brand?

Decent, but not extraordinary? It's not fair though, as it's more of a driver test than car test.
